At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Health Service needed a central location for coronavirus information and resources. They requested a site to be built quickly and designed in a way to allow expansion as the pandemic progressed. I built the site in less than a day and worked with my teammates to expand it over the following months as the pandemic progressed.

The main page, ihs.gov/coronavirus/, is information-heavy and features breakdowns by IHS area for cases, testing, positivity rates, vaccine distribution, and vaccine administration. I put this information into bootstrap tables that meet accessibility requirements and are mobile responsive. This allows users to access the information efficiently regardless of their device and accessibility needs.

Public Affairs wanted a FAQ page for a wide variety of covid-related questions from patients, providers, media, and the general public. They categorized these questions and I put them in collapsibles that allow users to quickly find information. The collapsibles meet section 508 accessibility requirements and can be opened completely with one click for searching and printing purposes.

From the start, the site included a page for an ever-expanding library of resources. PDF files specific to ihs.gov/coronavirus were remediated for accessibility and listed along with file information in order to accommodate users who have limited internet connectivity. Links to files and pages elsewhere on IHS.gov, external files and pages, videos, and printable forms were all sorted by category so that information can be located quickly without losing access information.

The Coronavirus site and other IHS pages about coronavirus are updated frequently with new information. To reduce instances of duplicate or outdated content, new references to existing materials are linked, such as the link to the COVID-19 promotional materials site. Documents are named and linked so they can be overwritten with new versions, rather than having multiple old versions hosted on the server, and all posted links across IHS point to the same file.
