This image was commissioned by a student to honor the quirks of a favorite professor during his last teaching term. It depicts a sign for an imaginary gym and incorporates several signature items of the professor: quickly-drawn stick men, the unity of the mind and body (physical and intellectual fitness), metaphysics, and hylemorphic justice.
The client supplied the name and some information about the professor. I worked with the client to come up with symbols, a slogan, and the general idea (a gym sign).
I generated some sketches and preliminary vector mockups (below left) for client feedback.

From the first complete mockup (above left), we decided to change the color scheme and add a globe image to reflect the “worldwide” concept. Since the dumbbell-and-book images looked like the face of an old man rather than the unity of physical and intellectual well being, we decided to add in a stick figure. The figure served both to unite our previously-chosen symbols and to represent the professor. The result was the above right logo.
Most of this work was completed in Illustrator as a vector image (above right), but the final touches (texture, dimension, and the wall background) were added with Photoshop (image at top of page).
